Pictured is Betsy Magee (LASI) AND chairperson of the Lafourche Parish Animal Shelter Advisory Board, and staff members of the Amelia Belle Casino. Each year, LASI is invited to participate in a tree or wreath contest. In 2019, LASI took first place ($1000) and in 2020 LASI took second place ($500). We appreciate the businesses that support our mission.
Bringing services to underserved areas is just one of the ways LASI can help. A free vaccination/micro-chipping clinic was held at the Lloyd Wallace Community Center in Raceland. We look forward to scheduling more of these clinics when social distancing becomes a thing of the past.
Lafourche Parish Animal Shelter takes adoptable pets to local events. Here is Dinah (adopted) at the Acadia Music Festival. Public awareness of the benefits of fostering and adoption is so important.
Partnering with local grant foundations, Bayou Community Foundation and the Lorio Foundation,
LASI was able to provide thousands of pounds of pet food to pet owners struggling to feed their pets during the Covid pandemic. The program was so successful, the Virtual Pet Food Pantry was created. Hundreds of applicants now receive pet food on a regular basis. Additionally, the shelter teamed up with the Lafourche Parish Government Community Action Commodities Distribution.
Drive-thru events are held on a regular basis.
Food has also been made available through the Catholic Charities food banks.
LASI was formed in 2008. Many of its members also serve on the Lafourche Parish Animal Shelter Advisory Board. This keeps us well informed of the needs of the shelter and community.
We focus on making the maximum positive effect. Our members and volunteers provide the momentum we need. Using community driven models, we take actions that make a long-lasting difference.
